Getting your morning routine right is half the battle in high school, and as a homeschool mom to a 9th grader, I know we need a start that is both rigorous and easy to manage. I created these High School 2026 May ELA Bell Ringers to give my own daughter that high-level academic spark without the “prep-work” headache that usually comes with secondary curriculum.  This High School 2026 May ELA Bell Ringers resource is designed to feel professional and intentional, giving your student/homeschooler a consistent way to sharpen their skills while keeping your morning basket time low-stress.  I love that I can just open the PowerPoint and get straight to the “good stuff” of deep thinking and analysis. It is the perfect way to bridge that gap between a slow morning and a productive school day for any high school homeschooler.

INCLUDED IN THIS RESOURCE:

  • Daily slides ready to display for a quick, visual morning start.
  • A clean, ready-to-print version for students/homeschoolers who prefer handwriting.
  • Critical thinking tasks that build student independence.
  • High-level prompts designed to spark meaningful weekly discussions.

TOPICS COVERED:

  • Evaluating how tone and diction influence a reader’s perspective.
  • Daily context practice with high-level words like paradigm.
  • Mastering active voice, parallel structure, and advanced modifiers.
  • Using specific imagery and sensory details for professional-level writing.

PERFECT FOR:

  • Starting the day with a focused, 10-minute academic warm-up.
  • No-prep daily tasks for students to handle on their own.
  • Meaningful samples that show off high-level critical thinking skills.
  • A reliable way to build writing stamina without the burnout.

WHY CHOOSE THIS RESOURCE?:

  • Every prompt is self-contained so no extra books are needed.
  • Rigorous content designed specifically for the high-school mind.
  • Use the digital slides or print the PDF to fit your style.
  • A structured routine that lowers anxiety and boosts morning focus.

BENEFITS FOR TEACHERS/HOMESCHOOL PARENTS:

  • A full month of high-level ELA work is ready to go.
  • Quick, self-contained prompts allow for easy oversight and instant verbal check-ins.
  • Adds a polished, college-prep feel to your daily homeschool routine.
  • Clear instructions allow students to start working without your help.

BENEFITS FOR STUDENTS/HOMESCHOOLERS:

  • Experimenting with complex writing styles in a low-pressure way.
  • Learning to see the deeper “why” behind language and text.
  •  Building the vocabulary and syntax needed for high school essays.
  • Checking off a challenging task first thing builds school-day success.

I really wanted to create a rhythmic weekly cycle that helps our homeschoolers build mastery without feeling like they are starting from scratch every day.  Each week follows the same flow:  Mondays for descriptive writing, Tuesdays for vocabulary, Wednesdays for analysis, Thursdays for grammar, and Fridays for reflection.  This consistency is such a lifesaver because it lets my daughter know exactly what to expect, so she can focus her energy on the actual challenge rather than the instructions.  It is a simple way to make sure we are hitting all those essential ELA targets in just a few minutes a day.

One of my favorite things about these bell ringers is that they are 100% “no-prep” and don’t require your student to hunt down any outside books.  I know how quickly a morning can derail when you realize you are missing a specific resource, so I made sure everything they need is right there on the slide or page.  Every analysis task and grammar fix is self-contained, using short excerpts or sentences provided within the prompt itself.  This keeps our homeschool lifestyle intact while still ensuring we are maintaining those high academic standards for the high school years.

As we get into those final weeks of May, keeping a high schooler’s interest can be a bit of a climb, so I have used seasonal themes and historical reflections to keep the prompts fresh.  It is so rewarding to watch your student/homeschooler move from simple grammar fixes to actually evaluating complex rhetorical strategies.  These daily sessions are not just “filler” for our morning; they are a real investment in the communication and thinking skills they’ll use long after they graduate.  It is been such a joy to see my own teen grow through this routine, and I am so excited to share it with your family.

I am so happy to bring this piece of our homeschool day into yours and see the growth it sparks in your student’s/homeschooler’s writing and analysis. These bell ringers have been such a grounding part of our 9th-grade journey, and I hope they bring that same sense of calm and academic purpose to your home this May.  Thank you so much for trusting my resources and for everything you do to support your homeschooler’s education.  I am truly honored to be a small part of your homeschooling adventure!
