Waves: Energy Transport Without Matter Transport: Science Unit 5, Grade 11 (Letters & Devotion)

Description

Waves: Energy Transport Without Matter Transport is Unit 5 of Algebra-Based Physics: Modeling Matter, Motion, and Energy (Grade 11), the Letters & Devotion Science course, complete in one printable PDF: 10 lessons, the unit check-up and the answer key, 77 pages.

• The parts of a transverse wave (amplitude, wavelength, crest, trough)
• The distinction between transverse and longitudinal wave motion
• The wave equation v = fλ and its relationship to T = 1/f
• Wave speed as a property of the medium, independent of amplitude or frequency of the source
• Superposition of two overlapping wave pulses
• Constructive and destructive interference as outcomes of superposition
• The difference between a medium particle’s local oscillation and the wave’s propagation
• Superposition reasoning applied to an untaught interference context
• An experimental procedure for measuring wavelength, frequency, and computing wave speed from household materials
• Wave-based energy transport vs. object-based energy transport

Every lesson is written for a parent with no teaching background: it opens with a short script to read aloud, names the specific wrong idea a student is likely to reach for and how to correct it, and closes with a practice sheet you may copy for your household. Scripture references are King James Version throughout. Black-and-white, 8.5 x 11 in. The whole year of this course is also in this store as a single book.
