What it is and who it is for:
This resource is primarily for teachers and parents of preschoolers that love animals and want to learn more about them.
What children learn:
Children will learn about dragonflies as they listen to the read-along and practice story comprehension skills as they work through the activities. They will also practice fine-motor skills as they create their own dragonfly craft.
What’s included:
A read-aloud story about a family observing a dragonfly and its environment.
Activities that encourage story comprehension and fine motor skills
Coloring and other creative art activities
ELA tracing (prewriting), matching, phonics sounds, vocabulary
Math counting, numbers, and graphing
Science life cycle, sequencing, how many wings
A craft dragonfly made with pipe cleaners, pony beads, and a popsicle stick
Library tips for extended learning
Level-Up tips for advanced or older learners
How it can be used:
Use this resource for a classroom read-aloud, a guided lesson, homeschool learning, independent practice, or an activity for a substitute teacher. Parents and teachers can work through the story and activities together or choose the pages that best fit their learners.
What makes it useful:
Throughout my years as a mother and an educator, I’ve heard children ask “why?” and “how?” to so many things in life and nature. This little learning resource grew out of one of those kinds of questions: “How do dragonflies live?” I wanted to give young learners a fun way to explore the answer through a story, activities, and a craft.
Supplies needed for craft:
3 pipe cleaners
Pony beads (I used 12)
Popsicle stick
Craft glue
Googly eyes (optional)
Supervision is recommended.
