This unit is designed for Grades 1–3 to help parents meet their children where they are. Because skills, abilities, and developmental stages vary widely between ages six and nine, this curriculum gives you the flexibility to adjust lessons to match your child’s needs and learning rhythm.

You can move through the unit in one to four weeks. Choose the pacing that best fits your homeschool flow from one lesson per week for a dedicated nature day one day per week to all four lessons in a single immersive week. Every child is unique, and every learning rhythm is different, so use this curriculum in the way that nourishes your family.

Included in this curriculum:

• 4 original stories, written specifically for each lesson

• 2 songs, with lyrics and links to the music

• 4–8 active games designed to support and deepen learning about newts

• 4–6 outdoor activities that engage children directly with the natural world

• 4 step-by-step lessons for each grade (1st–3rd)

Throughout the unit, your child will explore salmon biology, habitat, behavior, and cultural significance—all while reading, writing, observing, and thinking like a young scientist.

This single-unit PDF is a focused, streamlined version of our larger curriculum—perfect as a stand-alone nature study or as a way to try out the Ohmapi approach. It includes the same core lessons, stories, and activities you’ll find in our full-year curriculum. However, unlike the comprehensive year-long program, this unit does not include Making/Handwork, Nature Journaling, or Review Lessons.
