Description

The Web Trap Read-Aloud Living Book Edition is a story-first learning experience for children aged approximately 9–12, families, homeschoolers, librarians, and educators who want to explore the growing challenge of screen obsession without turning the conversation into a lecture.

Through the adventures of Bindi, Beam, Maddy, Jack, and Lee, young readers are drawn into an immersive virtual world where excitement, escapism, and constant digital stimulation begin to affect judgement, relationships, and connection with everyday life. As the story unfolds, children are encouraged to notice how easily compelling technology can capture attention—and why friendship, self-awareness, and real-world balance matter.

Built around a Charlotte Mason-friendly Living Books approach, this edition places the story before the lesson. Selected read-aloud passages are followed by gentle opportunities to narrate, wonder, discuss, create, and notice, allowing children to process ideas in their own words and connect them naturally to real life. The emphasis is on thoughtful conversation, imagination, observation, and personal judgement rather than worksheets, warnings, or over-teaching.

Parents and educators can use the book flexibly over several days or weeks. Each read-aloud section can stand alone as a meaningful family discussion, while together they create a coherent learning journey around digital wellbeing, immersive technology, persuasive design, friendship, responsibility, and healthier technology choices.

The Living Books format is especially well suited to homeschool families, read-aloud groups, libraries, workshops, and classrooms because it requires little preparation. Adults simply read, invite narration, ask one or two thoughtful questions, and allow the ideas to develop.

Rather than presenting technology as something to fear, The Web Trap helps children become more observant and capable users of it. The goal is not simply to reduce screen time, but to help young people recognise when technology is beginning to control their attention, understand the choices available to them, and protect the relationships and real-world experiences that matter most.

Read the adventure. Notice the pull. Talk about the choices. Build healthier digital habits together.
