What it is and who it is for:

This resource is primarily for teachers and parents of 1st Graders that love animals and want to learn more about them.

What children learn:

Children will learn about bees getting ready for winter as they listen to the read-along and practice story comprehension skills as they work through cross-curricular activities. They will also practice fine-motor skills as they create their own bee craft.

What makes it useful:

Throughout my years as a mother and an educator, I’ve heard children ask “why?” and “how?” to so many things in life and nature. This little learning resource grew out of one of those kinds of questions: “How do bees get ready for winter?” I wanted to give young learners a fun way to explore the answer through a story, activities, and a craft.

Supplies needed for craft:

1. popsicle stick
2. two black pipe cleaners and one short white one (color is not that important.)
3. some yellowish yarn (again, color is not that important though probably should be different from the pipe cleaner color.)
4. craft glue

Supervision is recommended.
