This resource is primarily for teachers and parents of 2nd Graders that want to help their learners practice multiplication readiness through skip counting.
What children learn:
Children will discover fun ways to practice skip counting through story with the character Beary the Bear to help prepare for multiplication. They will also practice fine-motor skills though story-based activities, and a simple craft.
What’s included:
A read-aloud story about a bear hiking through Autumn leaves skip counting as he goes
Activities that encourage story comprehension and skip counting practice by 2s, 3s, 5s, and 10s
A craft snack learner can make and eat
How it can be used:
Use this resource for a classroom read-aloud, a guided lesson, homeschool learning, independent practice, or an activity for a substitute teacher. Parents and teachers can work through the story and activities together or choose the pages that best fit their learners.
What makes it useful:
Throughout my years as an educator, I’ve watched children struggle with multiplication. I wanted to give young learners some readiness training in a fun and engaging way so that multiplication wouldn’t be so scary when the time came for it. Since I already like to relate to creatures, I decided to merge the creature theme into this little readiness book.
Supplies needed for craft: (please make substitutions based on what you have available and watch out for anything that the children might be allergic to)
