Similarity and Proportional Reasoning in Triangles: Math Unit 3, Grade 10 (Letters & Devotion)

Description

Similarity and Proportional Reasoning in Triangles is Unit 3 of Geometry: Structure, Proof, and Measurement (Grade 10), the Letters & Devotion Math course, complete in one printable PDF: 9 lessons, the unit check-up and the answer key, 73 pages.

• The AA similarity criterion for triangles
• The AA, SAS~, and SSS~ similarity criteria as a decision set
• The asymmetry between minimum evidence needed for similarity versus congruence
• The triangle proportionality theorem (a line parallel to one side divides the other two sides proportionally)
• The triangle proportionality theorem and its converse, and their shared logical dependence on AA similarity
• The geometric mean relationships produced by the altitude-to-the-hypotenuse configuration
• A similarity-based proof of the Pythagorean theorem
• The similar-triangle structure underlying shadow, mirror, and scale-drawing measurement methods
• The combined decision space of congruence criteria (Unit 2) and similarity criteria (this unit)

Every lesson is written for a parent with no teaching background: it opens with a short script to read aloud, names the specific wrong idea a student is likely to reach for and how to correct it, and closes with a practice sheet you may copy for your household. Scripture references are King James Version throughout. Black-and-white, 8.5 x 11 in. The whole year of this course is also in this store as a single book.
